Who am I?

My name is Nicolas Cholez, I am French and 45 years old.
I am a teacher of French as a Foreign Language (“FLE” in French) which means I teach people (adults, teenagers or children) whose mother tongue isn't French.
If you are considering taking classes with me, you are probably wondering what my qualifications and experiences are for doing this job.
So here are a few words about my background:
I grew up in Nancy, Lorraine (north east France) where I did my education until the 2nd year of university at the end of which I completed a "DEUG de Médiation Culturelle et Communication". Then, I moved south to finish my studies at Paul Valery University in Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, where I completed my Licence and Master in FLE.
After that, I started working as a French teacher in Tbilisi, Georgia (at Georgian Technical University, State University and French Cultural Center) and in different schools of French language and culture in Montpellier.
I also lived a few months in Ireland with the aim of improving my English.
In November 2005, I settled down in Lyon, Rhônes-Alpes, where I started working at several French language schools, including the Alliance Française.
In November 2011, enriched by this experience, I decided to create my own structure to be free in my work and dedicate myself specifically to private lessons and small group classes. So I opened a French auto-entrepreneur status: Nicolas French Class was born.
In February 2016, my expatriation virus resumed and I moved to Milan, Italy, where I worked with Nicolas French Class along with other language schools.
Finally, in November 2018, I came back to my home town of Nancy where I've been living since then.
Why choose Nicolas French Class and not a bigger structure?
All of my past experience has led me to conclude the following about French classes:
-
Private classes are often very expensive
-
Private classes are not very flexible
-
Group classes offer no guarantee regarding the number of students in the class
-
Group classes have a strict schedule
With Nicolas French Class, you will get French lessons of high quality, private or in small groups, at an affordable price and with a certain flexibility in schedules.
What more can I tell you about me?
I am a very curious person by nature. I’m interested in culture in general (history, literature, music, cinema, art, sport, cuisine and others) and I’m specifically interested in discovering other cultures and ways of life.
I've been practicing music with passion for more than 25 years (I play the guitar and sing) and also sports (basket-ball, running, cycling).
To conclude, I'd like to tell you a few words about my knowledge of other languages:
I speak, understand, read and write English very well. Thus, I can honestly say that my level of English is excellent.
Besides, I also have an excellent level in italian.
"Ho studiato l'italiano con passione per un bel po' di tempo. Pratico questa bellissima lingua tutti i giorni da più di 6 anni con la mia compagna italiana e il mio livello sia orale che scritto è eccellente".
I can also add that I used to speak good Portuguese and even though I might be a bit rusty, I still understand it very well.
At last, my Spanish skills aren't bad and I can speak a little bit of German.

Courses
Location:
I am located in Nancy, France, close to the ARTEM campus.
If you live in the Nancy region, courses can take place at my home, at your home or at your workplace.
If you don't live in Nancy, I offer you video conference classes on Skype or Zoom.
Duration of the class:
To allow for differing individual schedules, levels of concentration and personal preferences, I offer classes of either: 1 hour, 1 and a half hours or 2 hours.
Course content:
My teaching is organised around the four communication skills: listening comprehension, oral expression, written comprehension and written expression.
Depending on your needs and expectations, I can adapt my teaching and focus more on the learning of language structures (with grammar activities) or communication (with conversation activities).
Moreover, I use various learning materials:
-
Many FLE textbooks (general textbooks, specific textbooks for oral/written comprehension, communication, writing, literature among others)
-
Real world documents (newspaper articles, videos, radio podcasts, film clips, songs, etc…)
-
Websites
Finally, I have already helped a number of students prepared for the DELF and DALF exams, and also for the LPE (Language Proficiency Exam) of the United Nations. I understand the requirements of these examinations and I am well qualified to prepare you for successfully completing them.
The private class:
This is a one-on-one class with me. I will focus all my attention on addressing your specific expectations and needs, and answering all of your questions. This course is the most flexible, where I am able to cater to your needs, level and learning style most easily.
The private class by video conference (Skype or Zoom)
You get all the advanges of the private class and numerous digital documents.
The “Duo” class*:
This is a class of two students in which I respond to your expectations and needs and prepare specific and interactive activities for both of you. I use the benefit of having two students to increase the number of combined activities and stimulate your individual learning through the presence of another student.
Group class (3 to 5 students):
I structure the class around your collective needs and expectations and make extensive use of small group activities in which all students have the opportunity to participate and express themselves. I use the group synergy to facilitate fast and efficient progress.
*Remark: For the “duo” and “group” classes, people in the group must have a similar level of language and compatible expectations of the course.
During our first meeting, I will evaluate your levels and expectations, and, if necessary, ask you to complete an evaluation test.
